JD was keen to read The Day the Crayons Quit by Drew Daywalt from the second he spied it. Why? Because those crayons are drawn by one of JD’s very favourite illustrators, Oliver Jeffers (see our reviews of This Moose Belongs to Me, The Hueys in The New Jumper, and The Hueys in It Wasn’t Me).
The illustrations in The Day the Crayons Quit are just as quirky and engaging illustrated as Jeffers’ other work, and the story has been written brilliantly to appeal to the experience of any young artist – the crux being, some colours are used more than others and the crayons aren’t happy about it.
The characters in this book are great and it feels aimed at young school age children, which is probably why it resonates so well with JD. Well worth picking up if your little ones are heading back to school this week.
